Give Back Through Music at the World Famous Comedy Store

(HOLLYWOOD PRESS CORPS) SUNDAY, MARCH 26TH ~ The Hollywood Press Corps covered the Give Back Through Music event at the Comedy Store in Hollywood this last Sunday night. This was a cool event that benefits the homeless. Funny comics, amazingly talented musicians and a large group of people looking to laugh all came together in swanky West Hollywood. We had the entire Comedy Store to ourselves. This event will fund local charities in Los Angeles. Upward Bound House, which provides housing and help for the homeless, will recive funds from tonight’s show.

The comics were top notch and we were all so lucky to be watching comedy AND live music at the Comedy Store. The host of the evening was Ben Gleib. This guy is funny. He does a combination of “aging LA hipster” jokes mixed with “old married guy” observations. He spent a lot of time doing “crowd work” which involved instulting the creator of the TV show “Deal or No Deal” who was sitting in the front row. Ben introduced all the comics and the bands. For comedy there was Kira Soltanovich, Brad Williams, Jessica Michelle Singleton and Chris Riggins.

On the musicians side, there were so many famous people. There was Stephen Perkins, Derek Day, Alvino Bennet, Nalle Colt, Chris Wyse, Ed Roth, Alex Alessandroni, Garrett Holbrook, Scott Coogan, Eric Bradley, Carmine Rojas, Terry Ilous, Simone Sello, Fabrizio Grossi, Dennis Jones, Rob Mcdonald and Raymond Johnson.

Jessica Michelle Singleton came out and did a “sexy blonde girl on the Sunset Strip” routine. She got a lot of laughs and set the tone for the evening which was – Anything Goes. Chris Riggins, AKA the Door Guy at the Comedy Store, was very funny and brought the cool guy vibe. Brad Williams has the dwarf comedy locked up. Just off his stint in Vegas as the lead comic at Mad Apple ~ Cirque Du Soliel, Brad had everyone laughing.

All the comics are such pros and handled the crowd easily. It was a fun event because it was for a good cause and there was comedy and music. The music was amazing with each group taking three songs and throwing down their big numbers. Stephen Perkins looked really good sitting behind the drums. So many of us were connected to him via Zoom during the pandemic. It’s good to see him in person.

The New Experience Celebrates Brandino’s Birthday at Horse Latitudes Music Studio

(HOLLYWOOD PRESS CORPS) — Los Angeles, CA —Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020 —The New Experience got together for a rehearsal and to celebrate Brandino’s birthday. Robby Krieger, Brandino, Ed Roth and Franklin Vanderbilt were all ready to kick out the jams after being in self-isolation for the last six months. In the studio with the band was Mike Dumas famous head engineer at Horse Latitudes Recording Studio. Mike had the band sounding like a million bucks.

Birthday boy Brandino turned 66! But he looks 46! OK?! All photos by Dustin Brown

The most iconic jam of the night was when Robby launched into the Donnie Hathaway song, “Valdez in the Country”. Such a cool tune. You know the New Experience is fired up when you hear them play “Valdez.”

Robby brought some spirits to celebrate Brandino’s birthday. Robby, Franklin and Ed all raised a glass to Brandino. Robby doesn’t drink alcohol, but everyone else really enjoyed the celebration. It was all about Brandino on Wednesday night. A lot of fun. Everyone washed their hands.

The New Experience is looking forward to a time when the bars and music venues open back up. It looks like 2021 is going to be a busy year for the New Experience.

SUMMER CONCERT WITH BRANDINO AND THE NEW EXPERIENCE AT THE SEVEN GRAND IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

(HOLLYWOOD PRESS CORPS) — LOS ANGELES — August 8th, 2019 — The New Experience recently played the exclusive Los Angeles Whiskey bar, the Seven Grand. Located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles the Seven Grand is Los Angeles’ hottest  venue for music  and top shelf whiskey.  The atmosphere was oozing with cool as the band arrived. Brandino arrived early and took up a spot in the VIP area that had been set aside for the band. The Seven Grand features a Whiskey bible and makes amazing top shelf cocktails. The management for Seven Grand are super nice and were so stoked to have Brandino, Robby Krieger, Ed Roth and Dale Alexander play music for the night.

The featured singer was Haley Reinhart. Haley is a singer and songwriter from Illinois who is a top winner from American Idol. She’s currently on Interscope records. She sings so well with the New Experience. Brandino and Robby are so supportive of other musicians which is really rare in the LA music scene. Haley has passion for singing and is so talented.

The New Experience got started with Booker T and the MG’s iconic tune, Green Onions. The New Experience was in the groove on this Thursday night. Brandino’s bass line had a heavy, confident feel. This was the best performance of the Robby Krieger fronted band. Next up, The New Experience played Valdez. Robby played a cool solo on guitar and Ed Roth played a cool clavinet solo. Ed Roth is such an important member of the New Experience. He has the ability to lay down a steady groove, but he also has the most amazing jazz chops in the business. Ed has played with everyone. Ed is known as a session player and someone with a lot of feel. Ed has a real upbeat spirit and loves to play keyboard.

The band picked up the pace on Revelation and went into a cool groove on a song called Breezin. The New Experience went on to play Event Horizon which is the grammy winning tune that Brandino and Robby wrote together. Robby brought it back to their blues roots with Red Rooster. They also played the jazz standard, Favorite Things. One more blues tune was Albert King’s Born Under a Bad Sign. They took it back to the Doors with Riders on the Storm. This is such a cool song that everyone at Seven Grand instantly recognized.

One thing that a lot of people might not know is that the Doors didn’t originally have a bass player. Ray Manzerak played the bass lines on an organ using the pedals. Maybe for this reason, Robby has cool organs and great keyboard players that come and sit in. Legendary Hammond Organ player, Brian Auger stopped by to play with the New Experience on Light My Fire. Brian is known for playing with Sonny Boy Williamson and Jimi Hendrix in the 60s. He sounded great on Thursday at the Seven Grand.

Dale Alexander on drums was a real treat. The stage at Seven Grand doesn’t look like much, but the sound was perfect. Dale plays so well with Brandino. He has a lot of feel and doesn’t play too loud.

The young crowd at Seven Grand was really into the performance. Seven Grand is one of downtown LA’s hottest bars and the scene on Thursday was off the hook. We look forward to the next performance of the New Experience!
