(HOLLYWOOD PRESS CORPS) — Hollywood, Ca —The Hollywood Press Corps attended the Silicon Beach Film Festival this past Wednesday. The Festival is running at the TCL Chinese Theatres 6 in Hollywood from September 5th to September 12th. We attended Wednesday night, September 11th, and there was an enthusiastic crowd watching. The block that we watched had had some great short films. The first film was called Wake and it was a horror genre set in a morgue. Lots of tension. Very Walking Dead vibes. The crowd hung on every bit.
The third film that we saw was FIRE FUCKING FIRE co-written by Rachel Paulson and Julia Eringer. Co-directed by Rachel Paulson, directed by Julia Eringer. What a funny film this is. This short film is shot like a Netflix show. The sets are gorgeous. The costumes are really well done and the makeup too. But the comedy comes right out of the barrel. Ally (Rachel Paulson) wakes up in bed with her Rockstar crush Meg Taylor (Calico Cooper). Ally can’t help but to FaceTime her best friend Jess (Capri Campeau) who encourages Ally to get busy with her crush. Once Meg wakes up, calamity ensues. Rockstar Meg starts off with morning cocktails. FFF reminds me of Fleabag meets the Twilight Zone. There’s several big laughs in the short and the audience was really into it. Vico Oritz shows up as Sam in the last bit. The ending is well executed. I don’t want to give it up but there’s a Wizard of Oz moment when Ally has to do her own version of “There’s no place like home.”
Calico Cooper does a great job in her Bye Bye Birdie roll as the Rockstar. Julia told me that Calico is a legitimate Rockstar and was a natural choice for the part of Meg. This film had a lot of laughs. It has an amazing cast. It also has interesting costumes and thought out sets.
Rachel Paulson co-directed and wrote this film and also is the main character. She is great. She’s a face to watch in Film thats for sure. She plays Ally. I spoke with Julia Eringer who was the co-director on this project. She told me the she and Rachel met on the set of Good Kisser(2019) which is a feature film that they acted in together. Julia said that while they were filming Good Kisser in Seattle, Rachel was DMing a famous Rockstar (who shall remain nameless). They were busy filming but joked about what would happen if she actually hooked up with the Rockstar. That’s how the premise for FFF was born.
Short films are such an important part of film making. It was a lot of fun seeing all of the short films at the Silicon Beach Film Festival.
