Directly after his April 15th workshop on “Conduction®” technique, pianist Wayne Horvitz will lead tonight two of his ensembles, Collective Music Ensemble and Electric Circus, in an evening demonstrating this a method he learned from his friend and mentor Butch Morris.

Collective Music Ensemble is pianist Mr. Horvitz’s NYC counterpart to his Seattle-based Royal Room Emsemble.
Electric Circus creates conducted improvisations from minimal motifs of soul, funk, rock, and groove classics (60s onwards), referencing artists from Sly Stone to The Grateful Dead. Their charts feature up to 10 motifs, selectively used in each performance.

Composer Mr. Horvitz is having his 70th birthday in September and he is working on a piece called “Music For Ten Musicians” that he did at The Stone, an avant-guard and experimental music venue in NYC, to be released in November 2025.
He is on Trio Sprout, with a violin and a cello. He composed two solo piano records, one with older compositions and the second based on XIX Century paintings from from a museum in Switzerland.
