Robert Bose conceived the idea for the Balloon Chain at Burning Man in 2006. He explained, when we met in 2016, he frequently lost track of his girlfriend at the time as per the event’s vastness, leading him to attach a balloon to her bicycle. Given Burning Man’s location in the expansive Nevada desert, a single balloon wasn’t sufficient for visibility. Ballon Chain was born.
While Burning Man and Coachella are now corporate, still encourages to create art, experiment with altered states, and embrace a temporary liberation from conventional societal norms: less clothing, more drugs and alcohol, let’s just love each other and more than ever, let’s forget that the world is falling apart.
You don’t see shirt cocking, top less, no cap, Coachella is not that savage. Still, if you are at Coachella, remember, you can meet the love of your life and that will make it easier to get that suicidal thoughts away from your brain, at least temporary.
Robert told me “Burning Man is hard, all RVs break down, the desert storms are constant and it is not the way it used to be… the small satellite’s festivals are authentic, I want to go to South Africa, they told me is good… You can detach from society”, he said. In theory, you can’t exchange money in Burning Man, but now that is gone.
Coachella 2025 is on fire in California: Lady Gaga, Benson Boone, Green Day, Lisa, Post Malone, Marina, The Marias, The Go Go’s, Kraftwerk, just filled the space with music but Balloon Chain is also the star of the show. Everyone is a rockstar in a music festival, but you feel a little bit more in to the zone when you get in to the stage holding a Balloon Chain in your waist, like we did.
