The Kingdom of Caid, a branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), brings the Middle Ages and Renaissance to life across Southern California, the greater Las Vegas area, and Hawaii. Members in these regions participate in a vibrant community dedicated to recreating the arts, sciences, and martial traditions of the pre-17th century world.
Throughout the Kingdom, you’ll find a wide array of activities, including armored and rapier combat, archery, and thrown weapons. Beyond the battlefield, members explore historical arts and sciences such as costuming, cooking, calligraphy, music, dancing, and more. Regular events, ranging from local gatherings and tournaments to grand feasts and large-scale wars, provide ample opportunities to learn new skills, socialize in period attire, and immerse yourself in a welcoming historical recreation community.
One recent event put SCA into the spotlight for generations of Science Fiction fans to discover and enjoy at the LA Con V – World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon). There were countless artists, writers, creatives with lots of concurrent programming to keep convention goers thrilled and occupied.
Notable events included the 2026 Hugo Awards, hosted by author Ursula Vernon, spanning major fiction, dramatic, and fan categories announced during the convention. Key fiction winners include The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow for Best Novel and The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar for Best Novella.
Another highlighted event was Saturday Night’s Masquerade. There were so many great costumes, including the following Best in Show winners:
- Presentation: Best in Show – Lance Ikegawa, for “Single Parent”
- Workmanship: Best in Show – Ed and Jenn, for “Nuada and Nualla from Hellboy 2”
There were many maker experiences and demonstrations including “Make Your own Monster”, a soldering / blinkie workshop, and SCA demos of period embroidery and wool spinning. SCA also held regular armored and rapier combat demonstrations.

Another event held by SCA was Muse’s Masque. Muse’s Masque is Kingdom of Caid’s newest Arts & Sciences event. This evening event is a social space and non-competitive arts showcase. Included in the evening were period party foods, baubling in a parlor with games of skill and chance, a fashion show, auction, formal portraits, and period music and dancing.
