Yesterday I went to see Claudio Mascarenhas, his long time voice coach and teacher of 20 years, on piano, Inna Leytush, and his two colleagues that are part of the Allegro Singers trio, in New York.
Such a marvelous show! It gave me goosebumps. I LOVE Opera. I left walking on air, smiling and very, very happy.
Mascarenhas stage presence is impressive. He possesses a unique and highly valued male voice. Easily, he masters and rings, effortlessly, a top register, capable of singing sustained, brilliant high notes. Listening to his rich, warm, resonant and powerful voice, one noticed that Mascarenhas often has the ability to transition smoothly through the passaggio (the break between registers) without any change in tonal quality, ensuring a unified, three-octave-spanning sound.
Mascarenhas has dramatic repertoire versatility: despite his complex, intense and dark vocal color, his heroic lyric flexibility allows him to portray roles of great gravitas and dramatic intensity. His voice allows him to navigate the complex, often high-lying coloratura and sustained legato lines of certain repertoire.
Giuseppe Verdi, born on October 10, 1813, holds the “October Opera Month” title, which is perfect for Claudio Mascarenha’s stage persona and voice.
Mascarenhas sings in Portuguese, his native language, English, Italian and Spanish. His voice is clear and he sounds perfect.
I left dreaming about the Italian life that I once had. It was a magical afternoon.

Furthermore, Mascarenhas has an upcoming movie called Tiro Certo (Clear Shot).
Instead of journaling, he writes stories based on his own life experiences and what he observes around him. Tiro Certo (Clear Shot), aims to explore and incite discussions about violence that ALL individuals are exposed to in their daily lives.
The movie tells the story of a man, who worked as a law enforcement agent and was conditioned to help and protect many around him. It is a story based on Mascarenha’s life and experiences in his hometown Rio de Janeiro, located in Brazil.
The story unfolds with twists and turns. I highly recommend it.
