Broadcasting out of Loyola Marymount University since 1957, KXLU 88.9 FM is one of Los Angeles’s last truly independent, student-run radio stations. Renowned for its fierce commitment to free-form programming, the station offers an early platform to underrepresented genres, underground local bands before they hit the mainstream, giving airplay and in-studio exposure to icons like Nirvana, Beck, the Beastie Boys, and Jane’s Addiction.
By pairing this uncompromising DIY indie-rock ethos with long-running, culturally rich specialty programming like The Wildwood Flower Radio Hour, the only show in Los Angeles dedicated to showcasing live, in-studio performances from the regional bluegrass, newgrass, classic country, and Americana scenes.
