Poster House, the first museum in the United States dedicated exclusively to the global history, design, and cultural impact of posters, is a cultural fixture in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood.
Opened in 2019, the museum seeks to elevate the poster from a simple form of mass communication and advertising to a significant cultural and aesthetic artifact, exploring how these powerful visual tools have shaped society and culture across time.
Through rotating exhibitions, a growing permanent collection, and a variety of public programs, Poster House provides a unique space for visitors to explore the intersection of art and commerce, mass persuasion, and graphic design history from the late 1800s to the present day.

The museum currently hosts a number of fascinating exhibitions exploring diverse themes within the poster medium. On view are “The Future Was Then: The Changing Face of Fascist Italy” and “Blazing A Trail: Dorothy Waugh’s National Parks Posters,” both running until February 22, 2026, which offer contrasting looks at political and environmental messaging. Additionally, visitors can explore “Utopia in Our Time: The Posters of Molly Crabapple” and “Art for Art House: The Posters of Peter Strausfeld,” which are on display until April 12, 2026, showcasing works from a contemporary artist and an influential film poster designer.
These concurrent exhibitions highlight the poster’s versatility as a tool for propaganda, public service, and artistic expression across different eras and styles.
The Poster House is located at 119 West 23rd Street, New York, NY 10011.
