In the realm of independent Brazilian cinema, “Tiro Certo” (Clear Shot), delivers a non violent movie that emerges with pontuacted comedy.
Directed by Thiago Medeiros, this 2 hour length film tackles the genre of Rio de Janeiro police dramas but manages to carve out a distinct identity by turning its lens inward comedy.
At the center of the film is Claudio Mascarenhas, who delivers a performance as Benito Terranova, an elite police sniper known to his peers as “Tiro Certo.”
Mascarenhas plays Terranova not as a bulletproof superhero, but as a deeply fractured man. After suffering severe psychological trauma and haunting hallucinations, Terranova is sidelined by the force, only to take the law into his own hands as a ruthless vigilante.
Mascarenhas excels at capturing the raw, abrasive, and unhinged energy of a man who has lost his patience with the system and his grip on reality.
The narrative also benefits from strong supporting turns, notably by Neville D’Almeida, Tania Alves, Juliana Martins and Cláudia Alencar as Dr. Ana Beatriz, the psychiatrist attempting to help Benito process the ghosts of the victims he killed from a distance.
