Attorney Nadia Davari’s Sense of Style

Noted entertainment attorney Nadia Davari has to walk a fine line in fashion. It’s a given that she has to look professional, but since she works in Entertainment Law, her style has to be more hip and on trend, than say, a tax attorney.  Here’s her essay on the role wardrobe plays in her thriving career as an entertainment attorney.

Nadia looks professional and elegant in front of the iconic Urban Light display at LACMA

There are many reasons for wanting to look good and dress nice. Growing up, I used to think that being worried about my appearance and how I look was being superficial. However, I have come to think differently as I started law school and then started practicing as an attorney.

Nadia is dressed casually cool at an event for a women's group

How we dress affects how we feel and how others perceive us. While “You can’t judge a book by its cover” may be true, who was is that said “dress for success” or dress for the part”? There is little doubt that how we dress has an affect on the way we feel. We communicate with more that the words that we speak. We also communicate with the way we dress. So, I have come to appreciate that how I dress not only affects me personally and how I feel but it also affects the audience and the people whom I meet in the way they perceive me.

As far as dressing for myself, when I “dress for the part” and feel good, it helps me in the visualization of what needs to get done, in turn, affecting my ability to accomplish tasks and persuade others. I know that dressing well and looking good has a direct affect in my effectiveness in accomplishing my work.

In dressing for myself to make me feel good, I have also come to realize that I must dress appropriately, meaning I must have respect for the place, situation and the audience. I want to make a good first impression. When I think of a lawyer, looking professional and dressing for the office are the first things that come to mind.Generally, when dressing as an attorney, I want to exude confidence or tell my client that you can trust me. As such, choices may include pant suits, skirt suits and all around uptight goes hand in hand with dressing for the job. While this is true for almost all of the areas of law practice, entertainment attorneys are a bit unique in this respect.

In my opinion, dressing as an entertainment attorney is looking like a professional with a twist. As an entertainment attorney, I try to relate to my clients and to make them feel comfortable. This may lead to sartorial choices that are a little different than the typical attorney.  It may be a little more edgy or casual than what one may think of how a typical attorney dresses.  More info at http://www.nadiadavari.com/

Quynh Paris’ Futuristic Fall/Winter 2016-2017 Show

The stars sparkled in the sky and on the runway at the super sparkly “The Light of the Stars” Quynh Paris Fall/Winter 2016-2017  at the Pacific Design Center (PDC).  The PDC turned out to be the perfect venue for Quynh as it was a romantic setting with a vast runway surrounded by water, which really highlighted Quynh’s futuristic designs, which were inspired by the elements.

“My couture pieces and my ready to wear pieces have the same inspiration: the universe and all its stars. Via my couture pieces we can see nebulae, planets, light beams…In my ready to wear pieces we can see the trajectory of lights, either straight lines or curves,” said Quynh.

All this made for a vivid, whimsical and exciting show. It was reminiscent of Jane Fonda’s Barbarella on the runway.

Acclaimed designer Quynh has a great mix of East meets West given her worldly outlook and the fact that she has studios in Paris, Saigon, and Southern California!  Even the crowd at Quynh’s events was worldly with prominent members of the Vietnamese community like the Mayor of Fountain Valley Mike Vo to noted members of the press and Vietnamese artists as well as a European , Middle Eastern and American guests.

I also enjoyed the opening of the show, which started with a spirited performance from international singer Thanh Thoi. Thanh was dressed to impress with a top hat and a cool bespoke jacket designed  by Quynh. His rendition of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” added to the ethereal theme of the evening and was a stellar beginning.

“Thanh comes from Australia. I loved his voice and presence  the first time I heard him sing. He is not only a singer, but  also a dancer and a stage director,” she added.

He has much in common with Quynh, who is an accomplished painter, dancer and violinist before she became a fashion designer. This multi-talented artist  incorporates her love of these art forms in her stylish couture collections with volume, asymmetric constructions, 3D sculpture structures that have a life of their own, as well as fluid movements, painting and her use of rich colors and intricate details.

Pop Art at the Galerie Montaigne in West Hollywood

It was an amazing night on Friday, February 19th as the stars came out to West Hollywood check out art at Galerie Montaigne. The Hollywood Press Corps was on the red carpet at as the celebrities and artists arrived. Known for his Belgian neauvaux pop art, Georges Monfils was presenting amazing sculptures that everyone was talking about.

http://www.georgesmonfils.com/
Raised in Flemish Belgium and Northern France, Georges Monfils’ style mixes his “old world” heritage with his exposure to the “factory” (Andy Warhol) cult. His style is referred to as “nouveau pop”.  No topic is “off limits” for Monfils. He had sculptures in the middle of the space that were made of vinyl records. One piece had a Star Wars theme that resembled Darth Vadar…on a turntable.

In the back of the main gallery was an egg chair by artist Jonathan Loubens. Decked out in skulls and spikes, the chair was a huge conversation piece. Actor John Savage agreed that it would look great in anyones living room.

Loubens uses inspiration from haute couture, music, and poetry, trying to create artworks that honor those arts. His career full of spirituality and eccentricity gave him the desire to explore new paths. He now dedicates himself to the creation of unique and priceless works of art.

http://www.jonathanloubens.com/

Also on hand and walking the red carpet was artist Fano

www.fano-theartist.com

After growing up in the fashion industry, Fano’s artistic fiber and undeniable talent were inspired after spending three years in Antilles with the love of his life. Out of nothing, he finds himself at the head of a fashion empire in the textile industry, after having created the “trapeze dress” fitting all morphologies. Between Paris and the Antilles island, he chooses to stay in the front line by designing all store-front windows of the boutiques he opens, himself, showing his unending controllable taste for creation.

In the back outdoor area was Loneroc (Laurent Proneur) —

http://www.laurentproneur.com/
Music and self-expression drove Laurent through significant success as both a producer and performance. Best known for being a part of the Street Art movement Laurent, then LONE, pioneered hip-hop in Europe alongside greats like MC Solar, Menelik, and NTM. Inspired by this new poetry, dance and fashion, Laurent expressed himself by creating a lifestyle of radical freedom that focused on color, impact, and pushing the boundaries of perception. Currently painting in Los Angeles, he describes his work as a “neoteric experiment in fine art graffiti”. Sometimes frenetic, but more often grounded in purposeful focus, Laurent’s work vacillates between instigating deep self-reflection or insisting the simplicity of a beauty moment.

His art has to be seen to be believed.

It was such a great night of art and fashion. The Galerie Montaigne knows how to throw a fun VIP event!
