Dustin Ferguson’s Revenge Thriller ROBOWOMAN Premieres at the Glendale Laemmle

The much anticipated theatrical Premiere of the sci-fi revenge thriller “RoboWoman” from multi award-winning director Dustin Ferguson (“Nemesis 5: The New Model” which is currently available on Redbox) will take place at the Laemmle Glendale at 207 N Maryland Avenue on Thursday, April 11, 2019. The film will be presented as a late-night “Grindhouse Experience”, complete with actual Grindhouse movie trailers and bumpers from the 1970s and 80s. The red carpet will begin at 9:30pm, and the Premiere of “RoboWoman: The Grindhouse Experience” will start at 10pm. There will be a Q & A after the film with Ferguson, the stars of RoboWoman and the film’s crew.

“RoboWoman” follows Vivica Stevens (Dawna Lee Heising, “Blade Runner”, “Nemesis 5”, “Revenge of The Samurai Cop”) on her last night at a temp agency as she accepts a date with a persistent co-worker. Soon she finds herself cornered in a dark park at night and brutally attacked, raped and left for dead by her date and his deranged friends. She’s found barely alive by her roommate, played by Sue Price (Albert Pyun’s “Nemesis 2-5”) and undergoes illegal, experimental “cybernetic” surgery where she is given a replacement robotic arm and visor to correct her vision. However, the new implants don’t settle well because it isn’t long before she decides to seek revenge with the aid of her new attachments. One by bloody one she stalks and kills her attackers before the shocking and revealing conclusion!

The film features many notable celebrity appearances by Mel Novak (Quentin Tarantino favorite “Game of Death”, Steve McQueen: American Icon with Mel Gibson) as the deranged “Doctor Michaels”, Aki Aleong (“Missing In Action III”) as an innocent victim at the wrong place at the wrong time and Brinke Stevens (“Slumber Party Massacre”) as the evil Corporate Executive behind it all. Additionally, Vida Ghaffari (“The Mindy Project”), Jonathan Nation (“Elvis Lives”), Thom Mulligan (“FBI: The Untold Stories”),, Peter Stickles (“Showgirls 2”), Freddy James (“A Doggone Adventure”), Mark Popejoy (“The Amityville Legacy”), Clint Beaver (“Nemesis 5”), Zach Muhs (Albert Pyun’s “Bad Ass Angels And Demons”), Gregory Blair (“Garden Party Massacre”), Shaun Vetick (“Flyover Country”), Ken May (“House of Pain”) and newcomer Nathan Gershon (“Meathook Massacre 5”) appear in the film as well. It was written by Mike Reeb (“Nemesis 5”, “House of Pain”), produced by the late Randy Scornavacca and executive produced by Aki Aleong. The special effects were created by Joe Castro (“Wishmaster 3 & 4”, “Night of The Demons 3”).

Ferguson has announced that “RoboWoman” will become a trilogy. The action revenge thriller “RoboWoman”, the first film in the “RoboWoman” trilogy, will be released in early 2019 by Wild Eye Releasing. The second film will begin shooting in Fall 2019. Dawna Lee Heising is cast as the heroic Vivica Stevens (aka RoboWoman) in the trilogy.

Antonio Sanchez with Migration at The Soraya ~ The Valley’s Center for the Performing Arts

(HOLLYWOOD PRESS CORPS) — MARCH 13TH, 2019 — Top jazz drummer and four time Grammy winner, Antonio Sanchez, performed at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts on CSUN Campus in Northridge. This space, known as the Soraya, is the crown jewel of performance spaces in the San Fernando Valley. It’s a rare treat to see jazz on this level, and to hear it at the Soraya makes it twice as special.

The Soraya Leadership Series With Antonio Sanchez was an on campus event that brings prominent artists and students together. This was a great chance for the students at CSUN to listen to and learn from a master level artist.

Antonio Sanchez is known as one of the top jazz musicians in the world. His all percussion sore from the movie “Birdman” also known by the title “The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance” was revolutionary and ground breaking. Antonio is an immigrant to America from Mexico. He know lives in New York City with his wife Thana Alexa, who is a jazz vocalist. Antonio has been performing his “Birdman” album to sold out crowds. On Wednesday at the Soraya, Antonio preformed with his band Migration. Migration had Chase Baird on saxophone and EWI. An EWI is an ElectronicWind Instrument or a “Wind Synth”. John Escreet on piano and organ, Matt Brewer on upright bass and five string electric bass and of course, the talented Antonio Sanchez on percussion.

The Soraya, is a Taj Majal of performance spaces for the Valley. Its on the CSUN campus. Parking can be tricky. The security is tight and plentiful. Once we figured out where to park and how to check in, we entered the stage area of the auditorium. A stage was on one end with tables and a riser at the other end. The sound and the lighting are just amazing. The dynamics of the sound system are just top of the line.

Antonio and the band got down to business with a couple of tunes off of the “Lines In The Sand” album. They played “Home” which is great tune. I really liked Chase Bairds upright bass playing on the first few tunes. He switched to electric bass later but I think I liked the upright more. They also played “Travesia” and “Long Road”.

Antonio took some time to talk about his experience as an immigrant. His love for news. He talked about being sworn in as an American citizen. He said now that he cant be deported, he has to be careful about getting in trouble because hell have to answer to the authorities in the states now. He said he’s in a sort of limbo where he no longer feels like a Mexican citizen but is still new to being an American.

Migration

I really enjoyed Migration’s performance. Antonio is such an amazing drummer. One can almost hear Antonio speaking words with each expressive beat and cymbal hit. A question here, a statement there. Antonio has a passion for music. He took some time between tunes to talk about the immigrant experience. He spoke about immigrants who aren’t so lucky. People who flee their homes out of fear, persecution, war and famine. He also talked about people who get detained by ICE, but they are American citizens. All of these things are what Antonio is putting in his music. His band Migration is the next level for this master level composer. Working with the best jazz musicians of New York City, Antonio has created a jazz band that is capable of expressing his feelings and questions.

The Hollywood Press Corps was honored to attend the Antonio Sanchez concert featuring Migration. We look forward to future events at the Soraya.

Rally To Condemn anti-Semitism & Racism

The Saban Theater photo by Dustin Brown

(HOLLYWOOD PRESS CORPS) — LOS ANGELES — The Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts at the Saban Theatre will hold a Rally To Condemn anti-Semitism & Racism. It will be led by Rabbi David Baron. Holocaust Survivor Bill Harvey, and Leon Bass Jr., son of WWII liberator of Buchenwald Concentration Camp, the late Leon Bass will join the Rabbi on this special night. The Shared Heritage of Freedom Shabbat Service will be held just before the Rabbi’s sermon, “Jew Hatred: It’s Back – But It Never Really Left – It Only Morphed Into Anti-Zionism.”

Rabbi David Baron said, “In light of the recent resurgence of deplorable acts of anti-Semitism, the Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts at the Saban Theatre will be holding a Rally To Condemn anti-Semitism & Racism. Newcomer Representative Ilham Omar of Minnesota, a Somali-American, sent a tweet last week implying Congressional support for Israel has been bought by money from the lobbying group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Meanwhile, teen students from Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, CA, with a Nazi salute, hailed Swastika shaped beer cups during a drinking game at a private home party; the video went viral. And in Belgium at the recent Aalst Carnaval, a float depicted two huge puppet caricatures of Orthodox Jews standing on bags of money, with a synagogue façade in the background; Pascal Soleme, who wrote the float’s theme song about ‘bulging coffers’ and who works for the Aalst Police Department, thought the float was funny. These outright anti-Semitic acts of racism have no rightful place in a world where tolerance and understanding of all humankind should prevail.”

Rabbi David Baron from the Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts

The Rally To Condemn anti-Semitism and Shared Heritage of Freedom Shabbat Service, which begins at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019 is FREE, and open to all members of the public to attend. Free Parking is available after 5:00 p.m. at La Cienega Tennis Center, 325 South La Cienga Boulevard, at Gregory Way, one block south of Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, CA 90211.
