LDR is poised to be a game-changer in the ever-evolving sector of tech fashion. True to its name, it’s designed with the 24/7, modern, professional female leader in mind. With successful backgrounds in the fast paced industries of sports and entertainment, LDR’s founders understood first hand the importance working with accessories that were versatile and efficient. So it came as a shock to both of them that in their travels they had yet to find a stylish, protective, quality laptop bag- something that provided fashion and function.

And so LDR was born- a fun and fashionable twist on the common computer bag.  As sports and entertainment industry executives by day, and luxury accessories mavens by night, Sarah and Nickole are fierce “femmepreneurs” with a mutual passion for the advancement of women in work in life.

The vision of LDR is much bigger than the development of purses,” explains co-founder, Nickole. “We are on a mission to create a community for female leaders to come together to help one another rise up as a united group.”
In fact, LDR’s mantra is “Break Up with your Baggage“- not only the boring, bulky computer bags that weigh us down, but also the things that hold us back in our careers- negative thoughts, self-doubt, fears that keep us awake at night, “someday” attitudes, etc.
They have launched a $45,000 Kickstarter campaign to start fundraising. With the help of fashion-forward backers, LDR Brands can move from the successful pre-order stage to having inventory on hand and fulfill orders in real time.

The Hollywood Press Corps at LA Food and Wine 2015

The 2015 Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival was another successful event! I was able to attend the first night of the event, Thursday August 27 where over fifty chefs’ prepared delicious bites for patrons to taste. Additionally there were plenty of wineries and other spirits for patrons to enjoy an adult beverage. This year Curtis Stone was the host of this event; he took many pictures, and was gracious enough to be interviewed by many media outlets. Curtis Stone is the owner and chef of Maude, Beverly Hills, he prepared a Pork Pie (see picture). It was delicious, I really enjoyed it. I noticed at a lot of the food stations, the chefs’ had smoked cheese that they placed on top of the dish. The cheese looked like coal, but it was delicious. Chef Ian Gresik prepared a Corn and Truffle Agnolotti which taste like a stuffed ravioli, it was good. Chef Mark Mollica prepared pasta with braised lamb; I not a fan of lamb; however this bite was pretty
good.

My favorite Chef of the night was Bree Miller! She prepared a savory mac and cheese with cornbread (which would disappear as soon as she served them), cookies and milk (OMG, I had four-don’t tell anyone), cheesecake stuffed strawberries and coconut cupcakes. Chef Miller was gracious and took plenty of pictures, spoke to patrons and didn’t judge me for returning many times. Another favorite Chef was Robert Liberato who is from STK who prepared a Charred Angus NY Steak. The steak was rare, but very delicious and flavorful. The funniest Chef of the night was from Badmaashi LA (I do not remember his name). He spoke to everyone, while patrons stood in line (which was very long) he entertained patrons by engaging everyone in a conversation. He prepared a lamb burger (I don’t particularly care for lamb)-but this was pretty good, it was spiced to perfection!

I think LA Food and Wine gets better each year. I wonder how they will outdo themselves next year. I am hoping that one of these years Gordon Ramsey will host the event. Maybe one day he will invite me to his restaurant? Who knows one can only dream…Until next time loves….

Multi-Hyphenate Andre Gordon is on the rise

Andre Gordon is a very accomplished writer, director, producer and actor and has carved his own empowering career path in Hollywood. “I started out as an actor, but expanded to producing as I wanted parts that better showcased my abilities,” said Andre.

After successfully producing his own projects with name actors such as Morgan Freeman, Michael Clarke Duncan, Vinnie Jones, Jerry Rice, Ed Begley Jr. and Kathryn Joosten among others, Andre decided to only audition for specific, non-stereotypical parts.
“I told my agents to stop sending me out for gangster roles,” he said.

In his last film, Wedding Day, he played the role of the groom as opposed to the role of the wisecracking best friend, so he is completely breaking the norm for character actors, which is truly inspiring.
He also created the Mentorship Program, which is
designed to help up and coming actors, directors and writers. Participants of this innovative, hands on program, have a direct link to several industry perks including  agents nights, casting director workshops, director and producer showcases, red carpet events, opportunities for roles in feature films, acting classes, pr and press advice and business mentorship. Proceeds of the Mentorship Program go toward the Childrens Hunger Fund.

Gordon and the cast of Jungle Bunch recently won the International Emmy Award for best Kids Animation Show and Gordon and John Lithgow are the leads in this project. He was born in Saint Andrew, Jamaica and grew up in Miami, Florida. This talented multi-hypenate is a alumni of the BFA program at Florida State University and is repped by UTA, CLEAR Talent Group and Flick Commercials. Gordon is President and C.E.O of 4Horsemen FIlms.

Andre has been successfully producing, acting, writing and directing for well over a decade. Andre has worked theatrically in both film and television, which includes guest appearances on MAD TV, Campus Ladies, Scrubs, Phineas and Ferb and Zoey 101 along with the features Old School, Like Mike, and SWAT. He is in post production on You Can’t Have It and is in pre-production on Acre on the Rye and You’re My Angel. More info about him at http://dregordon.com/

Patrick Ney, the California Wine Guy,  a hilarious, friendly and fun Sommelier will be attending to enhance your tasting experience.   He infuses his wine education with stand up comedy, and enjoys diversifying his wine selection.

Patrick Ney
Patrick Ney

Patrick Ney will assist in showcasing their featured vineyard Old Oak Cellars, a beautiful and eco conscious vineyard located in Pasadena, California.  Old Oak Cellars started in 2003 as an attempt to diversify a family vineyard business, the eldest, Paul Overholt, decided it was time to form a winemaking company to specialize in making Bordeaux Style wines.  In 2007, Paul decided to further his knowledge of the winemaking craft by completing the UC Davis Oenology and Viticulture Certification program and that set the wheels in motion for the project that eventually became Old Oak Cellars. As the scope of the Project grew, Paul asked Dave Lustig, who has an encyclopaedic mind in respect to winemaking, to join him as Co-Winemaker so that the business building and winemaking responsibilities could be shared.

Old Oak Cellars was born in 2009. Old Oak wines begin with grapes from the Alexander Valley and a few other local valleys in Sonoma County, which is renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. Old Oak Cellars then processes and ferments their grapes up there, using the highest quality equipment and technology to produce award winning wines. Once fermentation has taken place, the white wines are filtered and bottled in the valley, while the young red wines are then transported down to our winery in Pasadena, where the real magic happens.

At their winery in Pasadena, the young wine is then aged and blended to perfection, spending time in stainless steel tanks before heading into a mixture of French, European and American oak barrels. Our winemakers then spend time getting to know the flavor development of the wines, sometimes blending different varietals for flavor and intensity.

Craft cocktails will be on hand by the unique and delicious Marani Vodka.  The pristine Armenian Ararat Valley is home to Marani Vodka and the  Eraskh Distillery which explains its unique honey texture and organic production.  It is a region on the southern edge of the “vodka belt” which stretches from Scandinavia across Eastern Europe before dipping down through Russia and the former republics of the Soviet Union.Marani is made with only 100% late-harvest winter wheat and natural spring water found within the Ararat Valley. Master distillers carefully manage a triple distillation and twenty-five times filtration process until the vodka’s preferred clarity is revealed. It is the next step which distinguishes Marani: its proprietary aging method. While most vodkas go from distillation and filtration tanks straight to the bottle, Marani uses skim milk and honey during its confidential process to smoothen the vodka, imparting a remarkably rounded taste and aroma which has become the Marani signature.

They are very excited to welcome Glassy Baby as a partner at our event!  They will have their beautiful votives and stemless glasses available for sale and will donate a portion of the proceeds back to Claire’s Place  Foundation and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital!  Be SURE to view their lovely products on line here:  Glassy Baby

They currently have over 20 varieties of flavors ranging from a roster of white Balsamics ,including peach, prickly pear, and coconut flavors to our dark family of Balsamics headed by our well received 25 year aged traditional, together with an exciting chocolate variety among other flavors to expand the pallet even further.  20% of their proceeds will be donated back to our event so please consider purchasing their lovely products to make an even bigger impact on our fundraising efforts.

Premiere of “Lovesick Fool–Love in the Age of Like”

The witty animated film “Lovesick Fool––Love in the Age of Like” will be screening at the popular Hollyshorts Film Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre in the heart of Hollywood tonight at 7:30pm. The film stars a talented ensemble of comedic geniuses like Lisa Kudrow, Janeane Garofalo, and Fred Willard. Polcino, an Emmy-nominated director of “The Simpsons”, “King of the Hill”, and “Family Guy”, directed, wrote, and voiced the lead role. The film is Polcino’s Mezmo Productions’ first feature.

“Dating in LA sucks. And animation seemed the best way to capture the despair while maintaining a sense of humor about it,” says Polcino.

It’s an original adult animated vision, expanding on Polcino’s award-winning short film “Lovesick Fool”, about a single guy in LA in search of true love. The film is semi-autobiographical for the multi-talented Polcino–a true comedy in a unique style featuring a lush soundtrack by innovative music supervisor Robin Fujiwara (music coordinator for “Burn Notice”) and top-notch voice performances by its stars. Rounding out the ensemble cast is David Banks (“Deadly Wives”, “Tosh.0”), Paul Gregory (“True Blood”, “Happily Divorced”), Renee Rivera (“Near Myth”), David Polcino (“Family Guy”), Pepper Jay (“Bill Plympton Presents Magnum Farce,” “Midlife”), Mila Musiynko (“Waiting for Dracula”), Paul Batmanis, Bradley Smith, and Melissa Teper. HPC’s own Vida Ghaffari (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,”“The Mindy Project”), who is also a talented character actress, will be making her animated film debut as the “dream girl.” Ghaffari also voices the role of hipster girl.

This comedic film had its West Coast premiere at the Los Angeles Art-House Film Festival where it won 1st place in the feature film category in the festival. After that, it moved on to the popular Topanga Film Festival, where it headlined the Comedy Shorts program and also won 1st place. The film made it’s US debut at the Manhattan Film Festival Polcino and has also screened at the Hollywood Short Film Festival, the Hollywood Reel Film Festival, the Victoria Film Festival, the NYC Independent Film Festival, The Atlanta Underground Film Festival and the Burbank Film Festival. Polcino also hopes to pitch the film as a TV series.

Monica Covers Burgers and Beer 2015

This past weekend, LA Weekly produced a stellar event! Patrons had the opportunity to taste all types of burgers and beers. My favorite vendor was Hawkins Burgers-as their burger was “top notch”. I admit I have had these juicy burgers in my high school days and occasionally sneak back to South Los Angeles to eat them. The bacon burger was delicious; it had bacon, cheese, ground beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onions, mustard and mayonnaise on a bun. The burger they provided was bigger than a slider and was really good. Another favorite was Pink’s. Now, I’ll admit I only go to Pinks’ for the hot dogs. Never again-it’s all about the burger. Pinks provided a chili cheese burger with onions and sausage on a slider. Yummy! Pinks is famous for their hot dogs-but from now on, I may just be ordering the burgers!
Other vendors that provided yummy burgers were Slaters 50/50, Vaka Burgers, Barrel and Ashes just to name a few. I had so many burgers; I need to go on a diet. The restaurant: Animal line was too long, so I didn’t get to taste their burger, but it must have been amazing because there were so many people waiting for that slider.

Although I didn’t drink the beer, there were several companies that offered tasting such as Budweiser, El Segundo Brewing Company and Ladyface Ale Companie just to name a few. Barefoot Wines was also present and I had the opportunity to taste their Rose which was sweet and tasty.
Although Burgers and Beers was a success, there was one con- no chairs or bar tables to enjoy the burger. It’s hard to walk and eat-but as in Rome- do what you have to do! Let’s get moving and support these small businesses as their food is delicious. Until next time loves… Live, Love and Enjoy!
